Fall Festival Fun

Mon Nov 2, 2009, 6:26 PM
This past Friday I was able to do something that I've never done before. I had a sketch booth at my school's fall festival. Oh man, I had a blast. The sketches were done in pencil and inked or colored with sharpies or markers on 5x7 card stock. I had about 15 made up before the festival to display at my booth so people could see what they would be getting. I did mostly supers, but also had a few mascots, princesses, and toons as well. I even did a Barney Fife! I started at 5 and didn't stop sketchin' until about 9:30. When the eraser dust had cleared, I had sold over 30 of my sketches. I was super excited that I was able to raise over $100(sketches were $3) for our school! Lookin' forward to the next time!

Heroes Con Report

Tue Jun 30, 2009, 4:08 PM
It's been a couple of weeks since THE summer event known as Heroes Con took place, and I must say, it lived up to all my expectations! Again this year I was accompanied by my beautiful wife to Charlotte, NC for the event. We had such a great time meeting artist, seeing old friends, and checkin' out cool swag. This year I was able to do a couple of things I'd never done at Heroes before. First, we attended the art auction on Saturday. It was truly an incredible event. Watching all this art go for big bucks was awesome. Secondly, I tried my hand(although it was a little shaky-nerves an all) at the quick draw contest. I had a blast doing it, even though I didn't place in the top three. Oh well, there's always next year!;) After all the sketches, dollar bins, and fun, it was time to pack it in and head for home(too soon). Thanks to all those who had a part in making my Heros 09 a great time. Hope to see you next year(can't come soon enough)!

Free Comic Book Day at Heroes!

Sun May 3, 2009, 6:52 PM
WoW! What a day! I hope that everyone was able to get out to a comic shop somewhere and enjoy some of the sweetness that is FCBD!

This year my wife and bro got up with me at the crack of dawn to head down to Charlotte, NC to enjoy FCBD at Heroes Aren't Hard To Find. After making my wife(aka Quilting Queen) happy by taking her to a huge fabric store for 2 hours of selecting the fabrics to make her next classic quilts, we were off for the main event!

We arrived at Heroes at 11:30 and began wading through the crowd to pick up copies of the free comics that had been placed throughout the store. Soon after, the artist showed up and began sketching for the crowd that had gathered. Oh, did I mention the artist that showed up were Adam Hughes, Brian Stelfreeze, Mark Brooks, Andy Smith, Allison Sohn, Budd Root, Sanford Greene, Matt Herms, Jason Latour, Chris Schweizer, Chris Brunner, and more! Oh yeah-I know what you're thinking, but it's for real though! Anyway, I was pretty fortunate to walk away with a few sketches and alot of great memories! One of the highlights of the day was watching my bro go wacko from watching Brian Stelfreeze do an incredible water colored Ra's Al Ghul for the girl in front of him. He kept saying, "Branson, you got see this, you gotta see it!" Man, what a great day. It was almost like a prequel to Heroes Con in June. Let it begin! Let it begin!

Just to let you know...

Thu Feb 19, 2009, 11:42 AM
I just wanted to give an update on DA because it's been so long since I've posted anything-brain surgery will do that to you. ;) Surgery went great! The Surgeon was able to get almost all of the tumor off of my optic nerve. I'm finished with half of my radiation and things are going fine. Just stay tired and have a little discomfort now then. I just want to thank all who kept me in their prayers and thoughts. Lord willing, I'll be back to normal...err, my old self before you know it. Have a great week!

By the way, pick yourself up some JSA. Johns is the man-bring'n back the Marvels! Yeah Baby!

Christmas Sketches!

Sat Nov 29, 2008, 6:04 AM
It's Christmas time! For the past two years, I have drawn sketches for my sixth graders as Christmas gifts. I'm no Michaelangelo(or any of the other TMNT for that matter), but the kids seem to really love this more than anything else I've done for them at Christmas. It also gives me a chance to draw something different that I haven't tried before. I have been asked to draw everything from super-powered frogs to John Deere tractors. So...I thought I would share some of them with you guys here on DA. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed drawing them!

On a darker note, this past Tuesday I found out that a brain tumor that I had removed back in February of '06 has started to grow back. It looks like I'll have another surgery in January to have the tumor removed. The doctor said that this time I will also be having some radiation treatments following the surgery. I wouldn't even mention it, but I do covet your prayers for me and my family.
